"GAMETALKS #10: NARRATIVE DESIGN IN GAMES" WITH DR. ALİ FASİH SAYIN

The tenth session of the "GameTalks" series organized by the Department of Digital Game Design took place on Wednesday, November 12, with Dr. Ali Fasih Sayın as the guest speaker. 

Dr. Sayın, who has worked on major titles such as Crysis and Hunt: Showdown, delivered a presentation titled “Narrative Design in Games.”

FallJam 2025 – Halloween!

Organized by the Department of Digital Game Design, “FallJam 2025 – Halloween!” offered students an unforgettable 48-hour game development experience.

Held between November 7–9, the event brought together creative minds who worked tirelessly to turn their digital game ideas into playable projects.

DEV-MEETS 2 | NEWMIND INTERACTIVE

The second guest of the “Dev-Meets” event series, organized by the Department of Digital Game Design, was one of Türkiye’s leading independent game studios, Newmind Interactive. Held on Monday, October 13, the event featured Anıl Yıldız (Co-Founder & Lead Developer), Batuhan Gözlüklü (Co-Founder & Narrative Lead), Öykü Baltacı (Narrative & Design), and Kayra Bora Keskin (Developer).  Our guests shared both the story of their studio and their experiences in the game industry with students.

"DEPARTMENT OF DIGITAL GAME DESIGN GAME ON EVENT: FRP APPLICATION WORKSHOP"

The "Game On" event organized by the Department of Digital Game Design met with players with its second session held on Thursday, April 17. In the practical leg of the "Game On! | FRP Day" title, four different Dungeon Masters (DMs) visited our university and offered different FRP (Fantasy Role-Playing) experiences to the participants.

“DEPARTMENT OF DIGITAL GAME DESIGN GAMETALKS EVENTS: BERİL TOPER & BERRA GÜZELLER”

Within the scope of the “GameTalks” events organized by the Department of Digital Game Design, researcher Beril Toper and urban planner Berra Güzeller met with our students on Thursday, March 27. Beril Toper presented “Games as Cultural Heritage: Shaping and Transferring Culture through Play,” in which she discussed the function of cultural heritage in games and how they carry the past to the present.

"DEPARTMENT OF DIGITAL GAME DESIGN GAMETALKS EVENTS: INTRO TO FRP"

As part of the "GameTalks" events organized by the Department of Digital Game Design, the event titled "Game Talks: Intro to FRP" focused on tabletop role-playing games and met with participants on Thursday, April 10. In the event, where Airties Research Director Mehmet Şükrü Kuran was a speaker, the basic dynamics, narrative structures and player interactions of Fantasy Role Playing (FRP) games were discussed in detail. Participants had the opportunity to learn how FRP systems work, player roles and the duties of the gamemaster (GM) within a theoretical framework.

“THIS WEEK AT GAMETALKS: A DEEP DIVE INTO GAME ENGINES”

Within the scope of the GameTalks events organized by the Department of Digital Game Design, our students came together with Lecturer Onur Kalkan from Bahçeşehir University on Monday, April 7, at 10.00. In his speech titled “Introduction to Game Engines”, Kalkan shared the differences between various game engines, which engine should be preferred in which situations, and how projects can be tracked more efficiently with version control systems. The speech, which comparatively discussed the strengths and usage areas of popular game engines, attracted great interest from the students.

ART AND NARRATIVE IN DIGITAL GAMES - A PANEL TALK WITH ÖZGÜR BULUT GÜMRÜKCÜ

Within the scope of #GameTalks events, the Department of Digital Game Design held a panel talk focusing on the importance of narrative in digital games with the participation of Lecturer Özgür Bulut Gümrükcü, on Tuesday, October 8. Gümrükcü provided insights to students about the relationship between Japanese culture and game production, discussing how artistic elements influence player experience through various examples. A short storyboard workshop was also conducted in the final segment of the event.
